UEFA have today confirmed that nations participating in next month’s Euro 2024 will be able to name 26 man squads, as opposed to the usual 23.

This comes after the governing body held discussions with representatives from each participating countries in Düsseldorf last month. 26 man squads were also present at Euro 2020, and were also put in place by FIFA for the 2022 World Cup to deal better with workload management, following Covid-19.

It’s a boost for each nation with an increase in injuries seen across domestic football, more so with the 2022 World Cup being held in mid-season.

As reported via our colleagues at Get French Football News, “Deschamps had suggested that if there was to be an expanded squad size then each player should be selectable in each match, rather than the previous system when some players would be unable to feature in a more limited matchday squad.”

When does Euro 2024 start?

Germany host Scotland in the opening game of Euro 2024 at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena on June 14. Gareth Southgate’s England begins on June 16, against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen.
