Udinese’s sporting director Gianluca Nani believes that they have been on the wrong end of some refereeing errors this season, including in the game against AC Milan.
The game against Udinese earlier in the month will probably be best remembered for Tijjani Reijnders being shown a controversial red card around the half-hour mark for what the referee adjudged to be a last-man challenge.
Although the replays showed minimal contact if any on Lovric, the decision was upheld and Reijnders was forced to serve a one-game ban. That suspension should have come on Saturday against Bologna, but the postponement meant it was served against Napoli in a 2-0 defeat.
Udinese meanwhile had a 2-0 lead against Venezia last night and fell apart after a red card, eventually losing 3-2. The sporting director of the Friulians – Gianluca Nani – spoke at a press conference.
“Why was Touré sent off? Can someone answer me? Touré is not the last man, Kamara could still have intervened. You know what Udinese’s style is, I always preach elegance, no one questions good faith, but we need uniformity of judgment,” he said (via MilanNews).
“Their number 5 had made a tackle worthy of an orange card [stronger than a yellow, not quite a red card], without even being cautioned, the same player who then received another yellow which would have been the second at that point.
“There was an obvious disparity of judgment. I saw the expulsion again on video, Kamara was about to intervene and I wonder why he was sent off.”
Among the incidents in Milan-Udinese, another stand-out was that Isaac Toure probably should have been sent off for a stamp on Samuel Chukwueze but instead didn’t even get a booking.
“I’m the first to say that we were unlucky and that nothing happens. Even against Milan, there was an obvious penalty foul on Kabasele and other incidents, but we didn’t say anything,” Nani continued.
“Today when I saw that red card for Touré, for me it was an obvious mistake. I don’t know why he wasn’t called to the VAR. As Sordi said: can I be angry about this fact?”
