As Manchester City bid to fortify their midfield this summer, there will be players who leave the club for new pastures. It now appears that two promising midfielders are set to leave the club this summer. Those players are Jacob Wright and Maximo Perrone. In truth, it isn’t a surprise to see both players potentially leave Manchester City permanently. It’s hard to see where they would fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad for next season and beyond.
Jacob Wright spent the second half of this season on loan at Norwich City after being a bit-part player for Manchester City during the first half of the season. The loan move allowed Wright to play consistent first-team football in the Championship. He made 15 appearances for Norwich City over the second half of this season. Now, a new report from Fabrizio Romano indicates that Norwich City have signed Wright permanently. Wright impressed for the Canaries when given the opportunity to play first-team football regularly.
Fabrizio Romano has reported via X that Norwich City have completed a deal to sign Jacob Wright. Furthermore, Romano reports that Norwich City will pay £2.3 million to complete the signing of the young Manchester City midfielder. The young midfielder only had to start 9 games to give Norwich the option to buy Jacob Wright. They have triggered that option as per Romano’s report.
Young Argentinian midfielder Maximo Perrone appeared set to remain at Como on loan for next season. Fabrizio Romano had previously reported that Como were looking to extend Perrone’s loan spell at the club. Furthermore, Romano added that Como were hoping to sign Perrone permanently. Now it seems that Como are close to signing Perrone from Manchester City.
Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail has reported via X that Maximo Perrone is close to joining Como for £25 million. Gaughan’s report can be seen below.
It does seem that leaving Manchester City is the best move for Jacob Wright and Maximo Perrone. Both players would have struggled for opportunities to play in Pep Guardiola’s side if they had returned to the Etihad from their respective loan spells. With City seemingly intent on bolstering their midfield, it is hard to see where Jacob Wright and Maximo Perrone fit into that equation. By leaving City permanently, they will both be free to deliver on the promise they have shown already in their young careers.
Maximo Perrone and Jacob Wright won’t be the only two players to leave Manchester City this summer. There will likely be a host of players who depart the Etihad. But they look to be the first two players to leave in what figures to be a busy summer in the transfer market for Pep Guardiola’s side.
