The rumours about a potential Enzo Fernandez departure from Chelsea continue to grow.
As each week passes without him in the starting XI, and with the date moving closer to January 1st, the chatter grows and grows. This time it’s the Sun sparking up some chatter, claiming that “two European giants” are ready to make an “audacious swoop” for the midfielder: Inter Milan and Barcelona, who join the previously rumoured Real Madrid as interested parties.
They even claim to have some inside information on Enzo’s thinking:
“SunSport understands the midfielder is determined to fight for his place… But a source said he has no intention of sitting on the bench for months on end if he falls down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge,” they wrote.
Well, as far as we can see, he does face a long spell on the bench and in the cup team, unless Moises Caicedo or Romeo Lavia pick up an injury. So this issue may come to a head sooner rather than later.

Of course the prospect of a January move is nonsense – we’d even say the chances of a summer move are absolutely tiny. European clubs just can’t afford to match Premier League teams financially anymore, and that’s especially true when you’re talking about the league most expensive ever transfer, less than 2 years after his arrival.
The fall from grace since then has been incredible for Fernandez, who was named the best young player at the 2022 World Cup shortly before he arrived at Chelsea. He’s shown flashes of his quality since he arrived, but no manager and no system really seems to suit him, and one has to wonder if English football is just not really ever going to be his ideal milieu.
