AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani is leading the process to appoint a sporting director, and developments can be expected in the coming days.
Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reports this morning that Furlani is back from Dubai where he had gone for commercial commitments with some club partners like Emirates and Konami, together with the Chief Commercial Officer Maikel Oettle.
He is now working to choose the best profile for the role of sporting director. It is a very important choice, indeed fundamental for the near and potentially distant future of the club, so no mistakes can be afforded.
Precisely for this reason, a decision is not imminent because Furlani wants to select the name without any pressure. At the moment Fabio Paratici is still in pole position, even if the decisive interview to close the matter has not yet taken place.
The former Juventus and Tottenham director – who is in Milan at present for a series of meetings and appointments – is not the only name in the running. Other candidates such as Igli Tare and some more names (both Italian and foreign) have received an invitation to interview .
Once the sporting director has been chosen, it will be up to him to make some important decisions regarding both the players and the head coach, where Sergio Conceiçao is far from out of the running for confirmation.
Obviously he will have to have a great end to the season to have a chance of staying in his place, but the Portuguese coach is convinced that his team can go all the way in the Coppa Italia and still believes in qualifying for next year’s Champions League.
