The arrival of Igor Tudor instantly revitalized a few players in the Genoa game, but not Teun Koopmeiners, who had another lackluster performance. The Dutchman got the start but didn’t make his presence felt.

According to La Repubblica, the new coach has devised a strategy to have the midfielder in tip-top form for the final matches of the season. He found the former Atalanta star in very poor physical and mental shape.

Koopmeiners will go through a specific training protocol for a couple of weeks to improve his conditioning and recapture some serenity. He’ll continue to be available but will likely come off the bench in the next two or three fixtures.

The Dutchman was one of the few players who didn’t have any personal issues with Thiago Motta. The former Bianconeri coach regarded him as highly as director Cristiano Giuntoli, fielded him consistently, and defended him more than a few times.

The 27-year-old hasn’t lived up to expectations after a €55M transfer, registering just 3 goals and 3 assists in 38 appearances after shining for a few years in Bergamo.

Our Take on Juventus and Koopmeiners

It’s one of those rare deals that didn’t work out for anybody but for the Atalanta books. However, the hole is still there for them too, as Lazar Samardzic hasn’t done much, Marco Brescianini is merely a rotational piece, and Charles De Ketelaere hasn’t been as good while having to run the offense all the time. He’s now in a scheme he’s well familiar with, but they’ll have to work on his morale too. At this stage, having missed a lot of the pre-season preparation is no longer a viable excuse.
