Follow up reports in light of claims surrounding Matheus Nunes and an arrest in Spain have surfaced from regional press on Wednesday morning.

A report released this week claimed that Nunes had been arrested at around 5:30AM on September 8 at nightclub La Riviera in the Spanish capital of Madrid, before being taken away for questioning.

El Mundo reported that the former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder was accused of taking a phone from a 58-year-old man who had tried to take a photo of him without permission in the nightclub’s toilets.

Despite Nunes reportedly being released ‘hours later’ following intervention from a lawyer, it is further claimed that the Manchester City midfielder is expected to face charges and trial over the incident.

However, much of the details surrounding the incident in early September are said to have been exaggerated, with regional media moving swiftly to offer clarity surrounding the matter and the events that unfolded.

That is according to the information of the Manchester Evening News, who state the incident involving Matheus Nunes in Madrid last month has been exaggerated and the City midfielder only pushed the phone out of the man’s hand after asking him to stop taking pictures.

It is confirmed that police were called to the incident at the nightclub but did not arrest the Portugal international, nor will the 26-year-old face any further action in relation to events on September 8.

Reports had first emerged just hours after Matheus Nunes and Manchester City had recorded their first win in this season’s UEFA Champions League, with the Portuguese playmaker starting in a 0-4 win over Slovan Bratislava in Slovakia.

City return to England to put together preparations for their final contest before the October international break, when Fulham travel to the Etihad Stadium in the hopes of blocking Guardiola’s attempts at returning his side to winning ways after back-to-back draws.
