Liverpool FC have made a graceful touchdown in Singapore, as they delve deeper into their preparations for the 2023-24 season. With two challenging fixtures on the horizon, the passionate Singaporean supporters have shown up in droves to welcome their beloved team.
The National Stadium in Singapore awaits, as Liverpool FC is set to face Leicester City on Sunday at 10am BST. Three days later, Bayern Munich, a team that shares Liverpool’s prestigious six-time European championship title, will challenge the Reds at the same venue, 12.30pm BST kick-off.
The 27-man squad didn’t have to wait long to feel the love of their fans. As they checked into their Singaporean residence for the week, they were met with a sea of supporters. The enthusiasm of these fans was unmistakable, especially upon seeing the charismatic Jürgen Klopp. Even though Klopp sported his hat in its more traditional style – a stark contrast to his recent backwards cap trend – he remained the centre of attention.
The manager’s generous nature shone through, as he indulged fans with photos and autographs, acknowledging their patience.
Singapore won’t just be remembered for its fixtures; it’s where Liverpool begins its journey without their talisman, Jordan Henderson. A devoted fan made sure to show gratitude for Henderson’s 12 years of unyielding service. Meanwhile, the poised Virgil van Dijk, seen by many as the heir to the captain’s armband, greeted the crowd with a smile.
Goalkeeper Alisson was not far behind, waving to the adoring masses. However, sharp-eyed fans might notice a few players appearing a tad fatigued – the long journey possibly making a mark.
The Reds have already demonstrated their attacking prowess during this pre-season. A thrilling 4-2 win against Karlsruher was closely followed by a nail-biting 4-4 draw against Greuther Furth. In Singapore, they’re expected to up the ante, facing formidable adversaries in Leicester and Bayern Munich.
Once the Singapore chapter closes, Liverpool FC will swiftly return home. They’re slated to confront Darmstadt at Deepdale, marking their final pre-season engagement. The real test, however, awaits at Stamford Bridge on August 13, where they’re determined to kick off the season on a high.
For those keen on specifics, the squad travelling to Singapore excludes Thiago and Bajcetic. The duo are back at the AXA Training Centre, focusing on their individual fitness regimes.
