A preseason aim of reaching next season’s Champions League hangs in the balance as Tottenham find themselves 14 points off the coveted fourth spot. Their recent home form isn’t encouraging, with just one success across nine previous outings (six losses and two draws).

Tottenham team news vs Bournemouth

Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou is optimistic that Dominic Solanke will be fit for the upcoming match after the former Bournemouth striker was withdrawn late in the game due to a knock sustained in a collision with the opposing goalkeeper during the 1-0 loss.

Following a lackluster performance in the Netherlands, Postecoglou is considering an attacking change. Wilson Odobert may start on the left, possibly replacing Mathys Tel, while captain Son Heung-min could be shifted to the central striker role.

Brennan Johnson is expected to keep his place on the right wing due to Dejan Kulusevski’s foot injury, and Rodrigo Bentancur is likely to remain in midfield ahead of his Europa League ban for the second leg of their last-16 tie against AZ.

Although Lucas Bergvall should not be dropped solely because of his own goal, the need for fresh legs could lead to Pape Sarr entering the midfield. Pedro Porro is also anticipated to make a defensive return.

Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have been cleared to play, but they are more likely to appear as substitutes, meaning Kevin Danso and Archie Gray will continue to shoulder the defensive responsibilities.

The two centre-backs have been long-term injury absentees but were unused substitutes in Thursday’s Europa League round of 16 first-leg defeat against AZ. Ange Postecoglou believed that the questionable quality of the pitch at AFAS Stadion would have made it an unnecessary risk to field either player.

Goals on the cards

It would be an understatement to say that things have been uncomfortable at home for Tottenham Hotspur lately. This season, Spurs have lost seven Premier League games at home, matching their joint-highest number in a 38-game season (equal to their record in 1996-97). The only time they suffered more home defeats was in 1993-94, when they lost nine matches.

However, for neutral fans, watching Spurs at home this season has been quite entertaining. In the 2024-25 season, only Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium has seen more goals scored in Premier League matches than the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with a total of 52 goals (28 scored by Spurs and 24 conceded).

Despite this, Spurs have averaged only 0.8 goals per game in their four home matches in 2025, a significant drop from the 2.5 goals per game they averaged in their first ten matches of the season.
