Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou believes teenage winger Wilson Odobert is ready to make a "big impact" in the Premier League next season.

Odobert, 19, returned to action after several months out with a hamstring injury for the final few minutes of last weekend's win over Manchester United.

The summer signing from Burnley started back-to-back league games after joining Spurs for around £25million but pulled up against Coventry in the Carabao Cup and then suffered a setback on his return to training in late October, which required surgery.

Postecoglou says the Frenchman has "unique qualities" which will be beneficial to his side's approach and backed him to make a major impression next term.

"[The injury] is disappointing because I am genuinely excited about Wilson’s potential as a footballer," the Australian said. "He’s got a really unique qualities that are exciting to see how they develop.

“And particularly to the way we want to play. He’s the one player that is a bit different to the others in terms of our attacking players. The dribbling capacity that he has, it’s hard to find.

“And he has that and enjoys that part of the game. He was a new signing but we haven’t really seen him yet. But with him, there’s still an opportunity there to make an impact this year.

“We’ll be careful with him in terms of how we reintegrate him. But there’s a good chunk of the season there with some important games so hopefully he finishes the season strong and then next year I think he’ll make a real big impact, not just with us but in the league."

Spurs face Ipswich and Manchester City in the top-flight over the next five days before a rare weekend off ahead of their Europa League last-16 first leg against AZ Alkmaar on March 6.

Asked if he was planning to take the squad away for some warm weather training, Postecoglou said: "I might do myself, not the training bit but the warm weather… but the team? No.

“We know now with the draw we’ve got to go to Holland midweek straight after that weekend so the plan is to train one day that weekend and have a normal lead-in to AZ.”
