Toronto FC has bolstered its attack in the 2025 MLS transfer window with the acquisition of Theo Corbeanu, a move that has excited fans.
The 22-year-old forward, who was originally developed in TFC’s youth academy, never made an official appearance for the club before moving to Europe, where he gained experience with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Granada CF in Spain.
Corbeanu’s return to Toronto FC comes with high expectations, as the club hopes he can become a consistent goal-scoring threat throughout the 2025 season.
His loan deal provides him with a platform to prove himself, and if he performs well, the club could explore a permanent transfer.
Meanwhile, Toronto FC faces a decision regarding Cassius Mailula, who is currently on loan at Wydad AC in Morocco.
The South African midfielder has started to gain recognition in African football, recently winning the club’s Player of the Month award for January after contributing one goal and one assist in three matches.
Mailula’s loan deal includes a purchase option, meaning Wydad AC could decide to keep him permanently. However, if Toronto FC chooses to retain his services, Robin Fraser will need to determine whether he fits into the squad’s plans for 2025.
His overall stats in Morocco have been solid, with 20 appearances, two goals, and five assists, showing that he is growing in confidence and impact.
With less than two weeks remaining before Toronto FC’s season opener against D.C. United, the team has only made one major signing so far. This raises the question of whether the club will make any last-minute moves to further strengthen the squad.
Robin Fraser’s vision for the team will become clearer in the coming weeks, as TFC continues to assess its roster ahead of the new season. Whether the club adds more players or sees unexpected departures, fans will be eagerly watching to see how Toronto FC shapes up for 2025.
