Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has backed Leny Yoro to have a big future at the club.
Speaking to MUTV, Amorim said: “He is working really, really hard.
“I think he is gaining muscle, all these small things that you cannot see.
“I think he is going to be a top, top, top player and is going to have a great career here in Manchester.
“But for that, he knows that he has to prove [himself] in every match, so he is going to be ready for the next one.”
United paid an initial transfer fee of £52 million to sign him from Lille last summer.
The Frenchman is a throwback defender in some respects, drawing comparisons to Raphael Varane with his composed yet commanding style.
He also has the ability to cover ground extremely well.
Though naturally at home in the right centre-back role, injuries to Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans have seen him step up on the left side of a back three.
He has handled that challenge admirably as well.
He has played 18 games in the 2024-25 season after missing the first few weeks due to a metatarsal injury he sustained in pre-season.
Yoro won over the United fans when he showcased his speed in defensive transition against Liverpool, making a last-gasp tackle to deny Darwin Nunez.
Despite his tender age, the 19-year-old exudes composure when in possession, rarely looking flustered under pressure.
The next phase of his development lies in refining his ball distribution, particularly from deeper areas, to complement his defensive prowess.
There’s still plenty of work ahead for the teenager, but his trajectory suggests he could become one of the finest defenders of his generation.
