Manchester City have finalised a third successive loan agreement for highly-rated left-back talent, Tomas Galvez.
The 20-year-old Finland international returns to the Eerste Divisie side following a productive spell last season, during which he made 17 appearances and registered two assists across the course of a second-half season loan.
Galvez had briefly returned to Manchester City this summer, but a new agreement has now been struck with Cambuur to send him back out for the new season and maintain a sense of familiarity following his successes last campaign.
Tomas Galvez is seen as a highly regarded talent within Manchester City’s youth setup, having featured prominently in the club’s UEFA Youth League campaigns over recent seasons and earned regular international call-ups at various youth levels.
A left-footed full-back who is comfortable in both a traditional defensive role and more advanced systems, Galvez has also earned five senior caps for Finland and was a starter in all of their matches at the UEFA Under-21 European Championship last summer.
His development has been carefully monitored by City Football Group officials, who view the Cambuur environment as an ideal platform for Galvez to now continue refining his game in senior football while gaining regular minutes in a competitive setting. Cambuur, who narrowly missed out on promotion back to the Eredivisie last season, are targeting a strong campaign this year and view Galvez as a key piece in their ambitions.
As confirmed by SC Cambuur in an official club statement, the two sides have agreed on a new loan deal for Galvez across the duration of the 2025/26 campaign.
Offering his reaction to the renewed agreement, SC Cambuur technical manager Lars Lambooij said, “We’re happy to have him back with us this season. We’ve all seen how well Tomas plays football and how calm he brings on the ball.
“He’s also improving defensively, and given his young age, he has plenty of room for improvement there. Finally, he’s also a great person to have around and therefore a very valuable addition to our squad.”
Galvez’s return comes at a time when Manchester City are continuing to fine-tune their own plans for several young players within their system, with a number of promising talents expected to be loaned across the UK and in Europe this summer to gain essential experience.
With Galvez now confirmed at Cambuur, Manchester City will hope to see further signs of development from the defender, particularly in his positioning, physicality, and defensive consistency – key areas highlighted by staff during his previous loan spell.
Should his progression continue on an upward trajectory, Galvez could yet be in line for a more prominent role within the City Football Group network or even a return to Manchester for a closer look at his first-team potential in the coming years.
