Timber discusses Gimenez and Reijnders ‘quality’ and new coach before Feyenoord-Milan

Feyenoord pose quite a puzzling challenge for AC Milan in the Champions League, and whilst fans will want to see a dominant display, with a new head coach, the Dutch outfit may not be the easiest opponent.

Logically, this game points in the favour of Milan. The second leg is at San Siro, the Rossoneri have taken the star striker of not just Feyenoord, but the division, and the side have just sacked their head coach.

All reasoning suggests that this should be an ‘easier’ tie for the Diavolo than it may have been on paper a few weeks ago. However, we know football is rarely this simple, and this means that we are likely in for the opposite.

A tricky game, where the new coach shows his qualities. Although everyone with a Rossoneri perspective will hope otherwise.

Speaking after the interim head coach, Pascal Bosschaart, Quinten Timber discussed the game as well as his friendships with Santiago Gimenez and Tijjani Reijnders – his comments have been relayed by Milan Press.

Change of coach due to lack of confidence?

“I didn’t understand the things they said. We work our best every day, and as a team we have done everything possible. I don’t think anything wrong has ever been done.

“When is the right time to do these things? I don’t know, for us it was a blow because I had a good relationship with him, but being a footballer you have to continue because the next game is here. It doesn’t help us to think about the past, we will have to respond as a team.”

Thinking about the present…

“The management makes the decisions, every day we did the best and the results in the Champions League were good, while in the league we have to be honest it was not good. We have to be responsible.

“New energy with Bosschart? I don’t know, but when a change comes, something new happens. We can play better and we want to do it for the club,”

On Gimenez and Reijnders…

“Playing against Gimenez? I wanted to say thank you for asking a question about the match and instead… I know his quality on the pitch, off the pitch he is exceptional. He started quite well in Milan.

“Reijnders? Yes I’ve spoken to him, but we don’t talk about the game, but also about tickets. Tomorrow we will say goodbye. Tijjani, like Santi, is an exceptional player, as are other Milan players. He already was at AZ. I really want to play tomorrow.”
