Ex-Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller is set to continue his career in Major League Soccer, according to Sky Germany.
Following the conclusion of the Club World Cup, where he scored a brace in the opening game against Auckland City, Muller called time on his 25-year association with the Bavarians.
He made over 750 appearances during his time in Munich, en route to winning 13 Bundesliga titles and two Champions League trophies.
San Diego FC, FC Dallas and FC Cincinnati were linked with Muller, but Los Angeles FC have emerged as the favourites to sign him.
LAFC’s long-standing partnership with Bayern strengthens their case, and the clubs’ joint venture, Red&Gold Football, has actively facilitated talks.
Muller’s transfer to MLS could have also been bolstered by commercial partners. Adidas are reportedly prepared to extend the 35-year-old’s endorsement deal if he completes a move.
This would maximise his ambassadorial influence ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Muller’s impending move to the United States further underlines the nation’s appeal to big-name players currently in the twilight of their careers.
His soon-to-be new employers will be hoping for an instant impact as they look to move up the standings following their return to domestic action, having also participated in the Club World Cup.
Steve Cherundolo’s men are currently fifth in the Western Conference, seven points adrift of leaders San Diego, albeit having played three matches fewer.
