Former Barcelona star Thierry Henry has this week revealed how he was put firmly in his place by none other than Xavi Hernández, early in his stint as a Blaugrana player.
Frontman Henry of course lined out in Barcelona’s colours for three years, from 2007 to 2010.
As much proved to be a trophy-laden stretch, as the Frenchman played a leading role en route to Barca clinching a pair of La Liga titles, the Champions League, Copa del Rey, and more.
And yet, as alluded to above, early on in his Camp Nou stint, Henry was subjected to something of a scolding on the part of one of his then-teammates.
Speaking during an appearance on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast this week (as cited by Diario Sport), the Arsenal icon opened up on an exchange with Blaugrana legend Xavi, which culminated in Henry issuing an apology to the Spaniard:
“I was with Samuel Eto’o going up the stairs of the Camp Nou. Then, we saw the phrase ‘Més que un club’ and we laughed. I didn’t see that Xavi was behind us and he reproached us for what we were saying.”
“What did you say? Don’t talk like that about my club ever again. When you win something one day, then you can speak up.
“At that time I did not respond to him, which is something unusual for me. I just looked at it and apologized. I didn’t know what it meant. Now I know. There I lost and I also won, so I understood everything that club meant.”
