Thiago Motta insisted that nobody is ‘angrier’ than the players and coaching staff following Juventus’s 1-1 draw with city rivals Torino in the Derby della Mole over the weekend, but the Bianconeri do not have much time to dwell on the past as another challenge in the form of Atalanta awaits them on Tuesday.

Thiago Motta sat down for his customary chat with the press on Monday ahead of the rearranged fixture between Juventus and Atalanta on Tuesday, which was postponed due to both teams’ involvement in the Supercoppa Italiana earlier in the month.

Addressing his team’s result in the derby, their 12th league draw from 19 Serie A matches this term, Motta said that the players are recovering both physically and mentally.

The coach also believes that his team created enough chances to win the game against Torino, but lacked the finishing touches.

“The group is recovering from the derby,” Motta said during his pre-match press conference. “It’s important to recover well physically and mentally. At the same time, they’re angry that we didn’t win. We want to give our best.”

Analysing the 1-1 draw with Torino further, Motta added: “We are angrier than anyone, we played better than the opponent, we created chances to take the lead in the second half but were not good enough.

“Work, work, work. It’s right to not be happy, but we have to be positive, the work we are doing is right but we have to improve on a few things to get the victory, that’s what we’re working towards.”

The Juventus coach was willing to admit that he felt his players made a couple of errors in their draw against Torino.

“We definitely made mistakes, because we could have won that game in my opinion, but we didn’t succeed. It means that we have to give even more. I’ll repeat: Nobody is more angry than us when we don’t win.

“Sometimes we’ve had difficulty winning games, and right now, to stay in the race for the Champions League spots, we may have to recover some points.”

Motta went on to explain where he hopes to see the team in terms of league positions by the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

“Of course we’re not happy with where we are now, we want to be in the Champions League places. But we’re working well to compete with our opponents. It’s pointless to look too far ahead.

“We only think about the next game, that’s where we put our energy: Preparation. It will be a great match, complicated like all of them. We will face a team that is doing better than us, the standings say so. We will show respect, but we want to play our game to get the result that we want.”

The coach also provided an injury update ahead of the upcoming match against Atalanta on Tuesday night: “We don’t have Bremer, Cabal, Conceicao, Milik, we’ll see with Dusan later.”
