We’ve all read the never ending stories in the tabloids and on social media regarding Alexander Isak.
Most of them just pure invention or wishful thinking instigated by pundits in the media, or self-entitled fans of the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.
United fans are hopeful that our own Rolls Royce will be offered and sign a lucrative and extended contract soon.
I have to say though, there is also one other thing that needs to be addressed ASAP.
Ice Cold Alex has been wearing the No.14 shirt for the Toon since arriving from Real Sociedad in 2022.
Number 14 was previously and famously worn by the likes of Johann Cruyff and Thierry Henry, two players who I have no doubt Alexander Isak will know quite a bit about.
Obviously Cruyff is well before Alex’s time but his legend lives on in the modern game.
Callum Wilson has worn Newcastle’s famous No.9 jersey with pride since joining from Bournemouth in 2020. A very good goalscorer for us, he is leaving our club with everyone’s best wishes.
There are some fine strikers from our history, who in their United heyday didn’t wear the famous No.9.
Think of the likes of George Robledo who played alongside Wor Jackie Milburn, probably the most famous No.9 of the lot.
Then there was Pop Robson as ‘Wyn the Leap’ Davies’ goal grabbing sidekick.
More recently we have seen Demba Ba mooching goals next to another much loved No.9, Papiss Cisse.
Now is the time for Alexander Isak to claim, or be given, the shirt worn by Gallacher, Milburn, Macdonald and Shearer.
He has scored 54 goals in 86 games for United, 50 coming in the Premier League.
A modern day phenomenon on Tyneside, this man is more than worthy of being Newcastle United’s No.9 as we head into a brave new era with an enterprising manager and exciting team.
Toon fans idolise and adore Alex, he gets them out of their seats and thrills and excites…a real ‘Love Potion No. 9’ if you like (I had to squeeze a song in somewhere).
