One player who failed to impress for Manchester City during their frustrating nil-all draw with Southampton was James McAtee. McAtee couldn’t get into the game before he was substituted at halftime at the St. Mary’s Stadium. Too often, McAtee just doesn’t do enough when allowed to play. Now, a new report indicates that the writing may be on the wall in terms of James McAtee’s Manchester City career. It seems that McAtee may be sold by City this summer, and there is no shortage of suitors for his signature.
Danny Rust and Dean Jones have reported for GIVEMESPORT that Manchester City are likely to sell James McAtee this summer. Furthermore, Rust and Jones report that McAtee has failed to convince Pep Guardiola that he deserves to team at City after this season. Rust and Jones add that McAtee’s disappointing display against Southampton does factor into this decision. Lastly, Rust and Jones report that there are a host of clubs that are interested in signing James McAtee this summer. They named Bayer Leverkusen, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, Everton, Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United as clubs interested in signing McAtee this summer.
It isn’t a major surprise to see James McAtee reportedly deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester City. The young midfielder just doesn’t seem capable of becoming a regular starter for Pep Guardiola’s side. He has the talent, but too often he flatters to deceive on the pitch. Perhaps a summer move is best for him and Manchester City. James McAtee also only has one year remaining on his current contract. At this stage, it doesn’t seem likely that he will sign a contract extension with City.
If James McAtee is to be sold this summer, then Manchester City will want to get the best possible deal for the young midfielder. There does appear to be a good chance of that occurring. There is no shortage of suitors for James McAtee’s services so City should be able to get a decent transfer fee for him. Although it won’t be a large fee due to his contract situation. But a battle to sign McAtee looks to be unfolding. That is good news for City.
It now appears that James McAtee will leave Manchester City this summer. It just appears to be a matter of where he will end up.
