Manchester United’s hopes of signing Adrien Rabiot have taken a big step in the right direction as Juventus have reached the end of their tether with the Frenchman.

United tried to sign Rabiot two summers ago and had agreed a fee with the Turin club, but negotiations broke down with Rabiot on personal terms.

But now it looks like they can get a second bite at the cherry as the midfielder’s contract is three days away from expiring at the Allianz stadium, with no solution in sight.

“The time for Rabiot has expired, as has the patience of Juventus: now a definitive answer is needed on the renewal of the contract,” CalciomercatoIt posted.

“There are many clubs surrounding the Frenchman and evaluating the purchase on a free transfer. From Real Madrid and United, along with the Italian suggestions of Inter and Milan.”

It was reported yesterday that los Blancos had joined United in the race for Rabiot’s signature, but the addition of both Milan clubs makes the situation even more complicated.

How much truth there is in any of these clubs’ interest in the Frenchman is hard to ascertain.

On the one hand, the availability of a quality midfielder in his prime at 29 years of age would clearly be of interest to a number of elite outfits.

On the other hand, it is hard to see where Rabiot would fit in Real’s star-studded midfield and Milan would be unlikely to offer the kind of wages he will be demanding.

Rabiot is on €175,000 per week at Juve, which is considerably higher than Milan’s top earner, Ismael Bennacer, who is on €136,000.

There is also likely to be a hefty signing-on fee and it also remains to be seen whether United are ready to return for a star who rejected them once and who does not fit the “young and hungry” blueprint Ineos have outlined for the future.
