More than half of fans attending São Paulo’s recent clásico against Corinthians opted for the metro’s Yellow Line 4 to reach MorumBIS, according to Arquibancada Tricolor. Out of the 47,964 spectators present for the 15th round Brasileirão fixture, 53.5%—roughly 25,670 people—used ViaQuatro’s service from the São Paulo-Morumbi station.
The station, situated about 1.5 kilometers from the stadium, has become the preferred gateway for home matches, driven by its convenience and the relative speed and cost-effectiveness of public transit in contrast to driving or using ride-hailing apps on matchdays. The popularity of the Yellow Line holds steady regardless of whether the occasion is a high-stakes derby or a routine fixture—an indication of how local supporters have embedded metro travel into their routine for attending games.
Operator ViaQuatro routinely increases staffing across all 11 of its stations on matchdays, with particular emphasis on São Paulo-Morumbi, deploying extra teams to assist both general support and organized fan groups. Their presence is aimed at easing crowd flow, coordinating access to trains, and reducing any potential issues tied to the surge of fans arriving within similar pre- and post-match windows.
This integration between transit infrastructure and football attendance is now a fixture of the matchday experience in São Paulo, helping handle the city’s unique urban challenges while fostering a smoother, safer arrival and departure for tens of thousands. As stadium crowds remain robust at MorumBIS, the ongoing reliance on the metro continues to play a quiet but essential role in supporting football culture in the city.
