Chelsea are now likely to go the whole season without a front of shirt sponsor according to finance expert Stefan Borson.
The Blues are currently on a run of two wins in their last nine league matches following their 3-0 defeat to Brighton, in what was arguably their worst performance of the season.
Enzo Maresca’s men have dropped to sixth in the table after wins for Manchester City and Bournemouth over the weekend, but are somehow still only a point outside the top four.
It’s not just on the pitch where the Blues have got problems, they also have issues off the pitch and the club’s finances are never far from the spotlight.
The club have invested heavily in the playing squad since the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital takeover almost three years ago, but have always complied with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.
Despite finding innovative ways to comply including selling hotels to BlueCo in 2023, a lack of a shirt sponsor has certainly cost the Blues millions.
Chelsea started last season without a front of shirt sponsor before agreeing a short term deal with Infinite Athlete said to be worth £40m.

However, that wasn’t continued into this season, and according to finance expert Borson the club are likely to go the whole campaign without a front of shirt sponsor.
“There is no shirt sponsor, there have been loads of rumours that they are about to do a deal,” he told Football Insider.
“Clearly, there is no shirt sponsor coming for this season, we are now in mid-February, so there is no shirt sponsor for this season.
“Anybody that puts their logo on the front of the shirt will not be paying very much for it if it does happen, or it could be as part of next season’s deal.
“But the reality is they are not getting the sorts of money that they have been getting historically for front of shirt this season.
“That is a big hole in the profit and loss. Then on top of that, the sleeve issue is really not ideal.

“But they keep spending, so they seem very unconcerned about things.
“We will just have to wait and see how they managed to make ends meet from a PSR perspective when their accounts come out in the next six weeks.”
