Sir Jim Ratcliffe has not endeared himself to Manchester United fans since acquiring a part-ownership stake in the club in 2023.

Staff cuts and ticket price hikes are among a plethora of factors which have angered supporters since Ratcliffe came on board.

However, United’s impressive business during the summer transfer window could change the narrative surrounding him.

Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have been signed for around £200 million, giving manager Ruben Amorim the attacking tools he desperately needed.

While their arrivals won’t resolve all of United’s on-field issues, they will undoubtedly give them a much better chance of being competitive this season.

It is often argued that clubs cannot fix all their problems in one transfer window, but United could rewrite the script over the next three weeks.

Ditching their out-of-favour players would generate income that the club could plough into fixing a couple of gaping holes in the squad.

Signing a top-class goalkeeper and central midfielder would give Amorim a starting XI that could genuinely compete with their main rivals.

Ratcliffe deserves credit for the backing he has given the manager this summer, regardless of the other factors which have irritated the fans.

If the club pushes the envelope a little further before the transfer window closes, it is not unreasonable to think they could mount a title challenge.
