‘The girls got their rewards’ – Vidošić reacts to Brighton’s victory over Everton

Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Dario Vidošić said that his side got what they deserved after they defeated Everton 4-0 at Broadfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Seagulls ran out emphatic winners on Barclays Women’s Super League opening day with Kiko Seike netting a hat-trick and Fran Kirby also scoring a debut goal.

When speaking to the media after the match, Vidošić praised his Brighton & Hove Albion side for their excellent opening day performance in Crawley.

“I think first half, really, really good coming in after six weeks,” Vidošić said. “First occasion playing in front of fans, it’s always that build up, that anticipation for round one.

“You want to start well, it was a simple message. We’ve played, we’ve done it every day in training, we’ve done it every day in friendly games.”

Going on to discuss his side’s performance further, Vidošić said that focusing on playing well was the aim and that in-turn delivered the three points.

He said “Just be brave, play our football. Football is a funny sport as well, you can be the better team and lose. We’re more focused on having a good, positive performance. When you do that, then you get the reward.

“Today, I’m thoroughly pleased for them. They deserve that after a great six weeks together.”

Commenting on the performance of hat-trick hero Seike, Vidošić heaped praise on the Japanese international along with teammate Kirby.

He said “She was fantastic. It’s something we worked on, trying to get her in good positions and use her ability to score goals. She was a threat all afternoon.

“Her and Fran [Kirby] have a really good connection on the right side, they were threatening all day. It was just a matter of time. If we were patient, trying to create those chances and good ones; I think probably on the last one, I might have been yelling out to pass but it was a good thing she didn’t listen and found the top corner instead.

“She’s been great ever since she came in and for all her hard work, she got her reward. Hopefully, there is many more of those.”

Brighton & Hove Albion return to Barclays Women’s Super League action next Sunday when they travel to Manchester City.
