The Athletic reveal medical date as Chelsea close in on first summer signing | OneFootball

Chelsea are planning for Liam Delap to complete his medical on Monday ahead of a £30m switch to Stamford Bridge according to The Athletic.

The Blues reached an agreement with Ipswich for the 22-year-old on Thursday, beating off the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle and Everton to his signature.

Delap was pictured with a Chelsea fan in Stansted Airport and the England under-21 international will become Enzo Maresca’s first summer signing.

A striker was the main priority for the Blues and they will delighted to get Delap signed before the Club World Cup.

Maresca has praised Delap publicly on a number of occasions this season and knows him well having worked with the striker at the Manchester City academy.

Delap impressed in his debut Premier League campaign scoring 12 league goals, and The Athletic have reported he will undergo his medical on Monday ahead of his move.

He will give Chelsea a much needed alternative to Nicolas Jackson, which the Blues have really lacked this season.

Delap is also a profile Chelsea lack in their squad and his box presence, physicality and goal scoring will be a welcome boost.

Hugo Ekitike a target

Delap might not be the only striker arriving this summer, and the Blues have continued to be linked with Hugo Ekitike.

Chelsea are said to be pushing for Ekitike, but Frankfurt are believed to want €100m for the 22-year-old who’s scored 22 goals this season.
