Football League World have highlighted the Championship's most passionate fanbases
Performances on the pitch during the Championship campaign will be debated all season long, with fans keen to weigh in on how they view their teams’ displays.
This can often split opinion and spark debate, with supporters of different clubs naturally differing in their views from time to time.
Another key topic of conversation between fanbases is how they perform themselves when producing atmosphere both at home and on the road.
All 24 clubs have a certain amount of passionate support, but some outfits enjoy the luxury of those spectators who go above and beyond to back their teams on the terraces.
With the Championship finally back, Football League World have ranked the division’s nine most passionate fanbases.
One of the English Football League’s founding fathers, West Brom, have amassed generations of supporters since they were founded in 1878.
Although they have languished in the Championship for almost half a decade now, their supporters still continue to back the Black Country outfit passionately, bouncing up and down on cue when the Baggies score.
This sight will be well recognised by many football fans, further highlighting the strong reputation the Baggies’ faithful have for their passionate support.
Under Ryan Mason next season, West Brom will hope the Hawthorns can be used as a fortress to build a charge towards the top six and ultimately achieve their Premier League ambitions.
Millwall’s support has been well-documented over the years, with it becoming somewhat of a legend throughout English football folklore.
The Den regularly produces one of the most intimidating atmospheres for away teams to play in front of, with a moody, hostile environment constantly presenting the Lions with an immediate home advantage.
New manager Alex Neil was an instant hit for Millwall last term and guided them to within two points of the play-offs, which will provide the East London outfit’s supporters with even more enthusiasm when following their team next season.
Birmingham City are a club firmly on the up and currently enjoy arguably the Football League’s most exciting project.
The Second City side packed out St. Andrew’s consistently before Tom Wagner’s involvement in the club and the atmosphere is likely to be as loud as ever next year.
With new stars such as Kyogo Furuhashi, Demarai Gray and Tommy Doyle to cheer on, the Blues' passion could push them towards the top of the second-tier in what should be an exciting campaign for Chris Davies’ side.
Another one of the EFL's founders, Derby County enjoy incredible prestige within the beautiful game.
This reflects among their fanbase, who have supported them passionately throughout all the highs and lows that recent times have brought.
The Rams are somewhat of a sleeping giant and are backed with support fitting of that mantle who will be relishing the opportunity to follow what looks like an extremely competitive Derby side next term.
Although not on the same level as their city rivals, Sheffield United also possess one of the division’s most passionate fanbases.
Something in the Yorkshire air must stir such strong emotion regarding football and the Blades’ supporters are a great example of that.
Bramall Lane proved to be a fortress for the Steel City outfit during their best years in the Premier League and is a daunting visit for any travelling Championship side, due to the sheer volume it can produce.
Being slightly edged out in the terraces by the Owls will naturally hurt, but enjoying the better performances on the pitch in recent times will likely make up for that.
Coventry City supporters are often mocked for being fair-weather fans who only show up when the club are doing well.
However, the CBS arena has consistently been one of the loudest home grounds across the past few Championship campaigns, with the Sky Blues backed in large numbers on the road too.
Loyalty is another valuable asset that the Coventry faithful possess in large volume, and they were outraged to see former boss Mark Robins handed his marching orders last term.
However, they backed new man Frank Lampard with the same passion and were almost rewarded with a trip to Wembley in May.
Perhaps not as fanatical as their fellow North East football clubs, Middlesbrough still enjoy an extremely passionate fanbase who back them sufficiently all season long.
Much like Portsmouth, Boro travel extremely well despite being detached from a large portion of the Championship, creating a booming atmosphere wherever they go.
The Teessiders have flirted with the play-offs over the past couple of years but will be hoping their strong support can get them over the line next term.
Any supporter who has been to Fratton Park knows the chaotic atmosphere Portsmouth supporters can produce, which is all thanks to their passionate supporters.
Pompey picked up points in 18 of their 23 home matches last term, which was the eighth-best record in the division and went a long way to maintaining their Championship status.
However, despite their side’s poor performances, the Portsmouth fans also travelled extremely well, regularly bringing extremely respectable away followings despite their geographical limitations.
The South Coast outfit have been a club on the rise over the past few years and have an adoring fanbase partly to thank for that success.
Sheffield Wednesday, whether at home or away, are always backed tremendously by their loyal fanbase.
Despite their torrid summer, plagued by owner Dejphon Chansiri, the Owls sold out their allocation for their opening-day trip to Leicester City, highlighting the phenomenal support they possess.
Their travelling fans consistently provide an incredible atmosphere no matter the club’s competitiveness, and Hillsborough becomes a Cauldron of noise when packed out.
Wednesday fans will hope that their club can soon match their passionate nature behind the scenes and see them cheering on an outfit fighting towards the top of the second-tier once more.
