FLW takes a look at the players set to miss Saturday's game as Swansea City host Sunderland

Swansea City host Sunderland on Saturday afternoon, an important fixture for two sides with play-off aspirations.

Sunderland sit in fourth place on 37 points, while Swansea are ten points behind them in ninth, but a win for the Swans on Saturday would see them close the gap to the play-offs with some favourable fixtures over the festive period.

Luke Williams' side are unbeaten in their last four fixtures and are coming off the back of an away win at Plymouth, while Regis Le Bris' Black Cats are coming off the back of a late draw with Bristol City last time out.

It's set to be an interesting afternoon at the Swansea.com Stadium, but both sides are set to be without some important players.

With that in mind, here are players set to miss the game as Swansea City host Sunderland.

Andy Fisher

Goalkeeper Andy Fisher has missed every Swansea City game this season after suffering an injury in pre-season, although he is edging closer to being fully fit.

His replacement, ex-Sunderland man Jon McLaughlin, will likely take his place on the bench again this weekend, but it won't be too long until Fisher is back in the Swansea squad.

Sam Parker

Young right-back Sam Parker is seen as one of Swansea City's most promising prospects, but he's currently out injured after suffering a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury.

The 18-year-old made three senior appearances for the club last season and put pen-to-paper on a new deal with the club, fighting off interest from the likes of PSV Eindhoven, Burnley and RB Leipzig, as per The Sun.

Joe Allen

Luke Williams revealed in the aftermath of the win over Plymouth that veteran midfielder Joe Allen would be set for a spell on the sidelines.

The 34-year-old has had some tough luck with injuries since returning to Swansea in 2022, and he faces a battle to be involved in Swansea's festive fixtures, so it's not a long-term injury, but still a blow nonetheless, and he'll miss the clash with Sunderland.

Ollie Cooper

Midfielder Ollie Cooper has been out injured since the beginning of November after suffering a stress fracture in his foot and is not expected back until February.

His absence has been a real blow for Swansea after an impressive start to the season which saw him become a key player for both club and country.

Josh Ginnelly

Josh Ginnelly has been out injured for well over a year after sustaining an achilles injury in September 2023, but he is edging closer to fitness, with Williams revealing that he had taken part in full training before last week's game with Luton Town.

Ginnelly has played just eight games for Swansea after joining from Hearts, but he looked impressive, scoring twice, and Williams will hope that he's available sooner rather than later.

Jenson Seelt

Cente-back Jenson Seelt has been out injured after suffering a knee injury in March, and he'll be unavailable for Sunderland's trip to south Wales on the weekend.

The 21-year-old hasn't played a game this season, and while he's edging closer to fitness, this fixture looks like it'll be too early for the Dutchman.

Niall Huggins

Niall Huggins has been out injured since last December, and he's still not in the frame to return to the pitch just yet.

The Welshman made an impressive start to the 2023/24 campaign, but an injury sustained against Coventry City just before Christmas has ruled him out for a sustained period of time.

Ian Poveda

Sunderland fended off the competition to land Poveda's services on a free transfer in the summer after his Leeds United exit, but it's not been plain sailing for the tricky winger.

Poveda hasn't been seen since a cameo against Derby County in October, with the initial diagnosis from Le Bris being four to six weeks - some 10 weeks later, and the ex-Barcelona man remains absent from the matchday squad.

Salis Abdul Samed

Salis Abdul Samed joined Sunderland on a season-long loan in August, but he's yet to make an appearance for the Black Cats after suffering an injury in one of his last training sessions with parent club Lens.

It's a frustrating situation for Le Bris, although December has been previously touted as a potential return date, so supporters may not have too long to wait to see him in action.

Alan Browne

Midfielder Alan Browne suffered a broken bone in his leg in the game against Coventry City last month and is expected to be on the sidelines for about two months, meaning that he'll miss the trip to Swansea on Saturday.

The Irishman joined the Black Cats in the summer and has made 12 Championship appearances so far.

Romaine Mundle

Similarly to Browne, Romaine Mundle suffered an injury against Coventry at the beginning of last month which will rule him out for about two months, meaning he's not in the frame to face Swansea on Saturday.

A January signing from Standard Liege last season for £2 million, he's made 27 appearances for Sunderland, scoring five goals.

Tommy Watson

Sunderland have been dealt a blow with the news that Tommy Watson will be out for two months after sustaining an injury in the midweek draw with Bristol City.

The 18-year-old has suffered damage to both his knee and his ankle, so it's a big blow for Le Bris ahead of the busy festive period with the youngster making a positive impression this season.

Ahmed Abdullahi

Summer signing Ahmed Abdullahi is yet to make his Black Cats debut after joining from Gent in August, and he looks set to be unavailable to feature in south Wales on Saturday.

The striker underwent a groin injury in September which was set to keep him out for three months, so it shouldn't be too long until he's back in contention to make his debut.
