Teenage Inter Milan Striker Calls Spezia Loan ‘The Most Important Season Of My Career’ | OneFootball

Inter Milan striker Francesco Pio Esposito says that this season on loan at Spezia is the “most important” of his career so far.

Esposito spoke to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, in today’s print edition.

Esposito has been on loan at Spezia this season. This is the second campaign in a row that he has spent on loan with the Ligurians.

Last time out, the Inter striker had gotten his first experience in senior football with the Serie B side.

And while it was a fairly positive season of growth as Esposito found his feet at a higher level than youth team football and integrated into the team, he was not exactly prolific.

This season has been different. Esposito has begun to score regularly as he has really hit the ground running back at Spezia.

The 19-year-old has been a key player as his team push for promotion to Serie A.

Inter and Esposito decided on sending the teenage striker back to a familiar environment in the second division this season rather than having him join a Serie A team on loan.

And this idea appears to be paying off in a big way.

Striker Pio Esposito called this season “Probably the most important of my career,”

“I had sort of foreseen that it would be,” he continued.

“Last season, while we were travelling on the coach to the stadium for the match against Venezia at the end of the season, I said to [Spezia teammate Pietro] Candelari, let’s stay here and we’ll do great things.”

Meanwhile, Pio Esposito also reflected on how last season went for him.

“Sometimes people rush too much to judge in football,” he said.

“I was eighteen years old,” the Inter-owned striker looked back. “I was in my first season with senior players.”

“It was normal that I received some criticism.”

“Few people saw the work that I was doing every day,” Esposito said.

“I think two years ago, the choice to join Spezia was the right one,” he added.

Esposito argued that “Already during the season when they were in Serie A, they had evaluated me.”

“I thought it would be the right place for me to grow,” the teenager said.
