Referee Sandro Scharer earned broad plaudits for his performance in Inter Milan’s Champions League win at Bayern Munich last night.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the Swiss referee was equal to the task despite the size of the occasion.
Officiating a Champions League quarter-final game is never, especially between two European heavyweights.
However, Scharer did his job to a T.
Indeed, he managed proceedings with authority and composure to keep the match under control.

Despite Bayern Munich’s protests, Scharer was right not to hand the Bavarians a ‘soft’ penalty in the fifth minute.
Indeed, Alessandro Bastoni wasn’t over-zealous when he tackled Michael Olise.
Furthermore, he rightfully refused to award Inter a spot-kick for Kim Min-jae’s handball after Hakan Calhanoglu’s shot.
Then, he had every right to show Nicola Zalewski a yellow card for a naive challenge early in the second half.
Overall, Scharer handled the pressure well, giving VAR no reason to intervene at any point.
