The midfielder was let go by the Premier League club this summer.

Swindon Town have been busy during the transfer window so far as Ian Holloway looks to build a squad capable of competing at the top end of League Two this season.
The Robins have brought in several players on free transfers this summer, including Tom Nichols, Billy Bodin and Darren Oldaker, while striker Jake Tabor has also joined the club following a prolific spell in non-league with Amersham Town.
Holloway will be looking to build on last season's 12th-place finish in League Two, which was an impressive outcome considering that Swindon were only just outside the relegation zone when he was appointed manager in October.
The 62-year-old may well be looking to complete some more business before the transfer deadline on September 1st, so we asked our Robins fan pundit which players he would like to see brought to the County Ground in the coming weeks.
We asked our Swindon fan pundit, Ciaran Daniel, which player he would love the club to sign before the end of the transfer window, and he picked out two options that he feels could improve Holloway's squad.
"I would really want us to sign one of either Joe Westley or Jadan Raymond," Ciaran said.
"Jadan Raymond is a former Crystal Palace youngster. I believe he was on trial with us in January, but we could not make it happen due to budget constraints. I think he is a really exciting prospect for the future.
"He has been a bit hampered by injuries over the last couple of years, but before that he played quite solidly, so he is not someone who is completely injury-prone. He just needs a chance to sort of get back into the game, get some regular football.
"I think with Tom Nichols' injury record, and obviously his increasing age, he would be a good understudy for him to come in and take his position when required, come off the bench, build his fitness that way, and then sort of kick on from there.
"He is someone who I think will build over time and would definitely be a very exciting prospect for the future.
"The other one, of course, is Joe Westley, who we did sign last year on loan from Burnley. I would like to see him return permanently to the County Ground.
"I think he has got a lot to learn from Harry Smith and the other strikers we have got in the squad. He is capable of coming off the bench and doing things. He is also very capable of starting in League Two if required.
"He gained some experience with us last year and I think he, again, is another good prospect for the future. He is just a natural striker, a natural sort of poacher, and would be a really good option for us if we were able to sign him.
"I think the priority of the two options would be Jadan Raymond, the former Palace youngster. I think he has some real promise about him and the central attacking midfield position is the one we lack a backup option for Tom Nichols in.
"I think that would be a very good signing for us and a very promising one as well for the future."
Raymond has previously represented both England and Wales internationally at youth level, while he also played five times in the Scottish Championship during a loan spell at Queen's Park last season, but a move to Swindon would give the 21-year-old a chance to really kick-start his career.
The Robins pushed to sign the midfielder ahead of several other clubs back in January, as per Football Insider, but it remains to be seen whether they will renew their interest now that he is available on a free transfer.
