It was the first edition of the Supercup, where it was called the Franz-Beckenbauer Supercup - an homage to the late legend, who shaped an era in German football all by himself.
Bayern Munich, last season's Bundesliga champion, went up against VfB Stuttgart, last season's DFB-Pokal winner - and the Bavarians came out on top!
A 2-1 victory gave Vincent Kompany's team their first trophy of the 2025/26 season - a campaign in which Bayern want to collect as many trophies as possible. Stuttgart on the other hand lost their second consecutive Supercup final.
During the game, many eyes were on Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade - his transfer saga and almost transfer to Bayern in the last weeks has dominated the German football press and many were excited to see his performance on the night.
Here is a rundown of the whole game, including key moments in chronological running order!
The game started in a heated way, Stiller was hit by an elbow during a tackle and needed to lay down just 1 minute in. After 5 minutes, Kimmich's long ball found Goretzka, who hit the outside of the net. This won't have been the last time Kimmich and Goretzka would work together in that way.
After 15 minutes, Bayern had their best chance of the game so far: again, long ball from Kimmich, Goretzka laid it up for Gnabry who put it just off target. But Bayern's fans didn't need to wait much longer for the opener:
Olise tried to find Kane, but his ball was intercepted by Stuttgart's Jaquez - however, his awkward touch put Kane back in action and the Englishman used that mistake to put Bayern in front in the 18th minute! His shot from the edge of the box led to his 7th goal in his 5th game against Stuttgart - he has not scored more goals against any other club in a Bayern shirt!
This goal led to Stuttgart wanting to show a reaction: they started to get more brave and put Bayern under pressure! The 24th minute dated Stuttgart's best chance in the first half, Nick Woltemade, of all people, was suddenly alone in front of Manuel Neuer after some back-and-forth in the penalty area - but he failed with an unplaced shot at the keeper.
Afterwards, Bayern once again took control of the game and had some good chances, but Olise, Laimer and Goretzka were not able to double the lead for the Rekordmeister.
First half: Bayern Munich 1-0 Stuttgart.
The match turned into an even more heated affair: every foul ended in a discussion and the referee started handing out more yellow cards - even for Stuttgart's and Bayern's assistent coaches!
Kimmich and Woltemade were involved in a more intense discussion, after the Bayern player accused the striker of some dives during the game.
Bayern still dominated the game with Stuttgart trying their luck through long balls to get in behind Bayern's defense - but nothing seemed to fully work for the reigning Pokal champion.
Just when Stuttgart were getting closer to Bayern's goal, the Bavarians struck again: Gnabry crossed the ball perfectly to FCB's star transfer Luis Díaz, who headed the ball into the back of the net in the 77th minute.
This goal set the tone for the rest of the game - Stuttgart tried to get back into the game, while Bayern slowed down the tempo of the match. In the end, Stuttgart were able to get one back in the 93rd minute thanks to a header from Jamie Leweling, but it was too little too late.
