Sunderland have completed the signing of goalkeeper Demi Lambourne on a free transfer.

The Lady Black Cats announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

Lambourne joins Sunderland upon the expiry of her contract at former club Leicester City. She has signed a two-year deal with the Wearsiders.

The 28-year-old is a two-time Barclays Women’s Championship winner. Lambourne was a member of the Leicester City side that won the league title in 2020/2021 and she repeated the feat last season during a loan spell at Crystal Palace. The keeper made 15 league appearances for The Eagles in which she kept eight clean sheets. Lambourne featured in a goalless draw against new club Sunderland at Selhurst Park on the final day of the season.

After signing for Sunderland, Lambourne said “I had a visit with Mel [Reay] and Steph [Libbey] and they sold it to me. Coming to visit the club and the facilities was fantastic so it was a no-brainer. With the togetherness, not just in the building but with the fans as well, I wanted to be a part of it and I can’t wait to get started.”

Lambourne arrives at Sunderland as a direct replacement for outgoing goalkeeper Claudia Moan who left the club earlier this week.
