Sunderland Shift Their Focus From Fatawu To This Danish Sensation: Le Bris Must Make The Call | OneFootball

If a recent transfer update from Pete O’Rourke is believed to be true, Sunderland have ended their pursuit of Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu. The Premier League newcomers are now exploring alternatives and have shifted focus to the versatile Red Bull Salzburg teenager, Adam Daghim.

The 19-year-old Denmark youth international spent the academy years with FA 2000, KB, Copenhagen and AGF in his homeland before breaking into the latter’s first-team squad in April 2022. He became the youngest-ever player to feature in the Danish Superliga, and the Austrian heavyweights, known for their extensive scouting around the world, snapped him up for €2.8m in August 2023.

However, Daghim was sent out on a season-long loan to FC Liefering, Salzburg’s sister side, in the second tier of the Austrian football pyramid. He returned to Wals-Siezenheim ahead of the 2024-25 campaign and was heavily involved, making 47 appearances across competitions. With 6 goals and 5 assists, the attacking ace showed his finesse high up the pitch, and could now ply his trade in England if the Wearsiders meet his €13m valuation.

The Danish prodigy has already appeared six times so far this season, and Thomas Letsch, the Salzburg boss, primarily views him as a centre-forward. But he also appeared from the right under ex-chief Pepijn Lijnders, as the former Liverpool assistant deployed him as an inverted winger to utilise his stronger left foot.

Sunderland have made a blistering start with an emphatic 3-0 win against West Ham United upon their top-flight return. The owners have backed Regis Le Bris so far this summer with nearly £160m in transfer spending, having tied down eleven new names already, along with making Enzo Le Fée’s move permanent.

The Mackems have Eliezer Mayenda and Wilson Isidor, as the pair netted against the Hammers at the Stadium of Light. Marc Guiu, on loan from Chelsea, should challenge and cover them up top, and Daghim, therefore, would offer further depth and flair while spearheading the attack.

Nevertheless, Le Bris could also bring him into action from the right as an understudy to Chemsdine Talbi. The summer signing from Club Brugge impressed on his Sunderland debut, and it remains to be seen if the famous English outfit wrap up a deal for the Salzburg sensation.
