Stuttgart finished last season as the fifth highest scorers in the Bundesliga last season, and they’re hoping to strengthen their attack ahead of their opening league game against Union Berlin on August 23. Kicker report that VfB are pursuing a move for former player Tiago Tomas, who is expected to leave Wolfsburg following a two year spell.

VfB are searching the market for a fast player who can operate on either flank or up front, of which Tomas is capable of doing. During his time at Wolfsburg, the Portuguese forward often spoke fondly of his time in Stuttgart. Quoted via Kicker, the 23-year-old said: “It was a great honour for me to play for this club and in front of these fans. I developed enormously in Stuttgart. The club and the fans deserve to be successful.”

Tomas scored eight goals and provided four assists in 47 appearances across all competitions at Stuttgart, but the Bundesliga club weren’t in a financial position to activate the players €15m purchase option. Instead, Tomas joined Wolfsburg from Sporting CP where he has scored nine goals and created six in 65 games.

Kicker further add that Tomas is drawn away from Wolfsburg, and would be open to returning to Stuttgart while VfL are looking to reduce its squad size.
