Spurs have only decided to start seriously looking for players over the last few days to improve the incredibly depleted squad manager Ange Postecoglou has at his disposal at the moment. One of their primary choices of positions has been a central defender, to cover for the injured Micky van de Ven (although he has very recently returned to action), Cristian Romero and now the latest casualty to the Spurs back line, Radu Drăgusin, who picked up a knock in the 3-0 win over Swedish side Elfsborg.
Spurs have seen deals for the likes of Feyenoord and Slovakia defender David Hancko, and AC Milan and England centre half Fikayo Tomori fall through or not even progress to advanced stages, but it does seem however they will finally get a deal done. They'll have to get the deal done quickly as there is still plenty of interest in the player, but according to high profile Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, he has said yes to Spurs.
The player in question is RC Lens and Austria international defender Kevin Danso, who has been playing in Northern France since 2021. The 26-year-old was actually due to undergo a medical at Tottenham's Premier League competitors Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow afternoon, but the Austrian has had his head turned by Spurs and a deal is now being worked on for the club to bring him to N17.
Danso is a very quick, strong central defender who reads the game very well and is a threat in both boxes, winning well over 60% of his aerial duels in France's top flight in each of his four seasons. The deal is being reported at €25 million (roughly £20m) and with a five and a half year contract on the table.
Danso, albeit Austrian, would also count as a home grown player for Spurs. The 26-year-old came through and made his debut at Augsburg, but spent a lot of of his childhood in England after moving there at the age of six, playing in the academies of Reading and Milton Keynes Dons. He also has a tiny bit of Premier League experience, making just six appearances in England's top flight for Southampton in the 2019/2020 season.
This is a really good bit of business for Spurs, they've got him for relatively cheap, considering the day and age of the transfer market and the fact he is apporaching what should he his best years. He'll meet the demands and suit the style of a Postecoglou team. He also won't need to learn how to communicate with his team mates as he is already fluent in English. Finally Levy has put his hand in his sky rocket and Spurs look set to get a deal done!
