In midweek, there were games for a few Tottenham Hotspur loanees. Let’s look back and see how they got on in their respective competitions.
To begin in the Championship, Ashley Phillips was named in the Stoke City starting XI, as they hosted Middlesbrough – whom are managed by former Spurs player Michael Carrick. It would prove to be a tough night, with the Potters condemned to a 3-1 defeat, despite the visitors being seriously out of form heading into the game.
As for Phillips himself, he played the 90 minutes – taking his total in the Championship to 2002 minutes. Though his side have struggled, you can’t complain about the amount of game time he has been getting over in the North Midlands.
This defeat leaves Stoke in 20th place in the Championship, with 35 points from their 34 games. Next up is a home game against Watford on Saturday, for a 15:00 GMT kick off.
In League One, Josh Keeley and Jamie Donley were both named in the Leyton Orient starting XI, as they also travelled to the midlands, to face table topping Birmingham City.
It is already an uphill battle to get a result at St Andrew’s. It becomes pretty much impossible when you get a man sent off – which Orient did after just 12 minutes of the game. Despite this, the O’s managed to get into half-time at 0-0, despite 16 shots – and Keeley having to make four saves.
However, after 53 minutes, the hosts finally got the breakthrough – and doubled their lead six minutes from time, winning the game 2-0. Not a game for an attacking midfielder like Donley to thrive in, as he played 67 minutes. Despite the defeat, Keeley made eight saves, and impressed once again.
This defeat leaves Richie Wellens’ side in 6th place in League One, with 53 points from 33 games, hanging onto their play off spot by a thread – but having now played one more game than the two sides below them, whilst being above them only on goal difference. Next up is a home game against one of those sides – Charlton Athletic – on Saturday, at 15:00 GMT. An absolutely huge game.
Finally, Alfie Dorrington played 28 minutes for Aberdeen – as they were hammered 5-1 away to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. This defeat leaves them in third place, with 41 points from their 28 games. Next up is a a home game against Dundee United on Sunday, at 15:00 GMT.
