Luciano Spalletti insists Francesco Camarda must be protected and hopes to see Edoardo Bove running on the pitch again.

The Italy coach spoke to Sky Sport Italia during the Gran Galà del Calcio on Monday.

He first discussed Nicolò Zaniolo’s chances to return to the national team and then the state of Italian football.

“Luckily, we have strong defenders. We had to find some solidity after the Switzerland game at the Euros,” said the CT.

“They say that Italian football is conservative, but it’s good to create a solid base. Starting from this, we can offer something different. I see this solidity in Serie A and the desire to do something more, even if most teams are still looking for their identity.”

Spalletti also spoke about Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove, who is still in hospital after collapsing on the pitch during a Serie A game against Inter on Sunday.

“We were all looking at that little piece of field where it was on the ground,” said Spalletti.

“Hopefully, we’ll have a chance to watch the football pitch entirely and see him run on it.”

Lastly, the Italian tactician replied to a question on Milan talent Camarda, probably the most promising player in the country.

“We all know that he’ll be our future, but I don’t know if I’ll be coach him. Who will come after me will be lucky,” said the CT.

“It’s better to keep a player like this undercover because anticipating the time could make him struggle or put him in a tricky situation. He has an important future ahead. I went to watch a Milan game some time ago, and when he started the warmup, everyone stood up. I’d have liked to create a bit of protection. You never know how these lads react to these situations, but he has plenty of quality.”
