Spanish national team head coach Luis de la Fuente has this week provided his take on the ongoing speculation linking Athletic Club star Nico Williams with a move to Barcelona.

Wide-man Nico has of course seen his name dominate the headlines across all of Spain over recent days.

This comes amid widespread confirmation that the 22-year-old’s long-anticipated Camp Nou switch finally appears to be in the home stretch.

The Barcelona brass have already tied up an agreement on the terms of a contract with Nico and his entourage.

And the understanding is that as much comes with a view to the Blaugrana activating the winger’s Athletic release clause in the opening days of July.

During a media appearance this week, it therefore came as little surprise when the topic of the ongoing speculation surrounding one of the headline members of his squad was put to the aforementioned Luis de la Fuente.

And Spain’s headmaster, in an interview with COPE, went on to admit:

“I’m an Athletic Club fan, but I have a responsibility to Spanish football. As long as the rules of the game are respected, fantastic.”
