Southampton ex-boss Rusell Martin's challenging phase continues as Swansea opts to look past him for the managerial role.

If you have been a Southampton fan for long, you would admit the club's downfall started back a decade ago. Particularly, when boss Claude Puel left at the end of the season.

Since then, the Saints have never seen uphill, which continues even now. Or maybe they saw it once, as they got a Championship promotion last season.

Now, as much as varied are the fans' opinions on this intriguing achievement, similar are their takes on ex-boss Russell Martin.

While some flattered by stats, see his Saints tenure as quite impressive, others are much critical of him. And they have a valid reason, as it was under Martin that Southampton faced relegation after so long.

Now, everyone may have different opinions on this, but one thing has been certain. It hasn't been going well for ex-boss Russell Martin lately.

After being fired from the managerial role at Southampton, Martin still searches for a new one. If that wasn't enough, the 39-year-old has suffered recently once again.

There's a reason why they say, "It is not the enemy who betrays you, but the one you hold closest to your heart."

Sadly, Russell Martin is going through such an experience. This is because he looks dropped from his ex-club Swansea's return plans.

Though searching for a new manager, after having sacked Luke Williams, the Championship side isn't considering calling Martin back.

Recently, journalist Ben Jacobs clarified this, saying: "Des Buckingham a contender for the Swansea job. Russell Martin won’t be returning to the club."

Clearly, it's over between Swansea and Russell Martin now. But, he might still complete a return, not at Swansea but maybe Southampton itself.

Sounds offtrack right? But given his excellent record in the Championship, maybe the Saints consider him for a short stint to secure promotion.
