Southampton's U18 team learn from Ivan Juric's squad to enter into FA Youth Cup quarter-finals.
Well, Southampton's 2-1 away win still feels like moments ago but more than a week has passed in reality. As you might have guessed, the Saints have already begun preparations for the next game.
Sounds like another important game to avoid the drop, but don't worry this weekend is a bit different. Instead, the FA Cup is returning and the Premier League affairs will be paused for around ten days.
I know Premier League fans would be missing the top flight football but that isn't the same for the Saints. Infact, every Southampton fan has enjoyed a Cup competition more than the ongoing Premier League campaign.
Expectedly, as the Saints have won all of their FA Cup and Carabao Cup games barring the Liverpool one. Southampton have been a pleasure to watch there and as a result, their young counterparts are also taking inspiration from them.
Recently, the Southampton U18 team overcame all odds to earn a spot in the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup. As huge as this accomplishment seems, maintaining the composure to recover from 1-0 behind to putting four unanswered goals is commendable.
Post-match their manager Calum McFarlane was visibly proud of this massive feat from Southampton's promising players. Speaking to the Daily Echo, Calum said: "It's the worst possible start but we got the best possible response, which prepares them hopefully for some day making their senior debut here."
Honestly, that's the best part about playing at Southampton. There aren't many Premier League clubs that can boast of nurturing more talented wonderkids than the Saints have managed to do over the years.
The current senior team has many high potential stars and let's hope that many U18 teenagers also continue rising through the youth ranks in the coming years.
