Patrick Berger reports that Southhampton are interested in Heidenheim attacker Leo Scienza. The winger completed a solid training camp for his Bundesliga outfit and is a projected starter for Frank Schmidt’s Ostalbenschwaben. Scienza currently maintains an estimated €3m market worth. Berger claims that Heidenheim will request a transfer fee in the low-single-digit million range.
Scienza made the jump to the Bundesliga from then 3. Liga outfit SSV Ulm last season. Some struggles adjusting to the new level meant that the 26-year-old scored only three goals and contributed three assists in 25 league appearances. Scienza nevertheless did net two goals during Heidenheim’s Conference League campaign and delivered when it mattered for the team in the promotion-relegation playoffs.
Southampton have already looked to the German football to augment their attack this summer, signing 1. FC Köln striker Damion Downs last month. Hoffenheim defender Joshua Quarshie also joined the Saints for a modes €3.5m fee. Downs and Quarshie are the only additions Southampton have shelled out money to acquire this summer. Another Bundesliga recruit could be on the way soon.
