A long piece in FootMercato today is all about the French players in the Chelsea squad and their season so far.

By and large it’s a very positive piece. Malo Gusto is proving a super signing – talented and versatile and a regular under both managers he’s had at the club so far.

Wesley Fofana is also finally playing regularly, and while our defence needs work, Fofana has achieved his main objective of the season so far which was simply to get on the pitch and stay there.

Christopher Nkunku will want more minutes, but he also seems to have conquered his injury problems to an extent, and it’s only the form of his rivals in attack which is keeping him out of the team,

Even Axel Disasi gets praise here, with the article claiming his lack of minutes is more down to a “truncated” preseason than a lack of faith from Enzo Maresca. We would disagree – Levi Colwill would quite clearly be Maresca’s favoured partner for Fofana even if Disasi had had a proper summer.

Benoit Badiashile playing in a preseason friendly against Wrexham.

Badiashile moves towards the exit already

But there’s one player that they note is struggling – Benoit Badiashile has a much “foggier” horizon, as they put it, after just 37 Premier League minutes after 9 games played.

They claim that “according to our latest information, [Chelsea] would not be against the idea of a departure in the coming months.”

That doesn’t surprise us at all. He’s already been linked with moves away for some time.

As much as anything, the sporting directors would likely want to move on Badiashile simply to give themselves the opportunity to buy another, even better defender. If they can find a buyer at the right price, it feels almost a shoo-in for next summer when tempting targets as replacements are on the market.
