The Gunners have won their last six matches in all competitions and are unbeaten since Slegers was placed in interim charge in mid-October.
When speaking to the media ahead of the Liverpool fixture, Arsenal boss Slegers highlighted the importance of keeping the momentum rolling on.
“I’ve been saying it before, but momentum builds momentum and we want to go off of that,” Slegers said. “As a team, we are in a flow state and that’s positive, but we need to stay sharp and we need to keep on looking at what we need to do to stay there and develop even further because if we start getting too comfortable with it, we could decrease and lose that momentum.”
Arsenal only arrived back in England in the early hours following yesterday evening’s UEFA Women’s Champions League fixture against Vålerenga, but Slegers says that her players are in good spirits going into the weekend.
She said “I think the energy levels are high throughout [the squad]. Obviously, you go up and down and need to recover and recharge, above all mentally and physically; we call this a recharge day.
“We have a couple of players in the building, doing what they need to do, but if the players felt they could stay home then that’s your way of recharging and getting ready for Liverpool and that’s ok as well.”
Slegers went on to discuss latest opponents Liverpool. The Reds are without some key players through injury but Arsenal are preparing for another tough game.
She said “We spoke about the fact that they have a couple of key players unavailable, which is a loss for them, but I still think they can put a strong, competitive team on the pitch on Sunday, that’s what I expect. They are missing some key players, but I’m sure they are trying to find solutions, trying to find a way to perform well and get best-prepared for Sunday, so we will face a strong opponent.”
Arsenal’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Liverpool kicks-off at 2.30pm on Sunday afternoon.
