Malick Thiaw has recovered from the ankle sprain that kept him on the sidelines for the last three games, thus called up for the derby against Inter tonight. Given AC Milan’s defensive struggles, having more depth is never a bad thing.
Thiaw doesn’t have particularly good memories from the derby as Marcus Thuram made a mockery of him one year ago. The Nerazzurri won that clash 5-1 and this evening, Milan will need to complete opposite for Paulo Fonseca to keep his job as the manager of the team.
According to Sky Italia (via MilanNews), Thiaw returned to training on Friday and as the team arrived at Hotel Melia today, he was present with his teammates. As such, he’s at Fonseca’s disposal for the big game and that is good news seeing as depth is never a bad thing.
Having said that, it will be Matteo Gabbia and Fikayo Tomori in the centre of the defence as per the latest reports. Strahinja Pavlovic needs the rest after starting the last two games and Gabbia is more used to playing the derby, for what it’s worth.
The game is scheduled for 20:45 and the psychological warfare has already begun, with Hakan Calhanoglu taunting Milan on social media.
