AC Milan Miss Out On Rasmus Hojlund As Uncertainty Grows At Old Trafford

AC Milan have failed in their attempts to secure Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund, with the Danish forward unconvinced by the proposal on the table. According to Sky Sports, the Serie A club were only prepared to structure a loan with an option to buy, whereas both Hojlund and United were seeking clarity through a permanent deal.

Milan Proposal Falls Short

“It’s understood AC Milan could not convince Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund to join them under the terms of the deal on offer,” Sky Sports reported. Their preference for a temporary arrangement did not match either the player’s wishes or United’s longer term strategy.

The Rossoneri have often sought flexible financial structures in recent years, particularly when targeting younger strikers. In this case, though, the lack of certainty proved a stumbling block. Hojlund’s camp had made it clear that a loan without immediate commitment was not of interest.

Leipzig And Napoli Also In Frame

Earlier this summer RB Leipzig explored a permanent transfer while negotiating the sale of Benjamin Sesko to United. That move failed to materialise, as Leipzig pivoted towards the signing of Romulo from Goztepe.

Meanwhile Napoli are in the market for striking cover after Romelu Lukaku’s injury setback. “Napoli have also asked about Hojlund as they look for a striker to cover for the injured Romelu Lukaku. He is one of a number of options being considered,” the report added. The Serie A champions have shown they are prepared to explore multiple avenues and Hojlund features among them.

Uncertain Future At Manchester United

The uncertainty at Old Trafford only adds to the intrigue. Hojlund initially expressed determination to compete for a starting spot, but his omission from the squad for Sunday’s clash with Arsenal raised eyebrows.

“Head coach Ruben Amorim hasn’t closed the door on Hojlund staying at United – but the player knows he won’t be first choice following Sesko’s arrival.” That statement underscores a difficult reality. A striker signed with major expectation is now potentially surplus within a year of arriving, underlining once more the shifting sands at Manchester United.

What Next For Hojlund?

The question remains whether a permanent exit will be arranged in the coming weeks or whether he will remain on the fringes of Amorim’s squad. For Milan, attention may now shift to alternative forward options. For Hojlund, clarity is urgently needed to avoid a season of limited opportunities.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

As a Manchester United supporter, this report is difficult to digest. The club made a huge statement in signing Rasmus Hojlund, a young forward tipped to lead the line for years to come. Now, after only one full season, we are already reading that he is unwanted, benched against Arsenal and effectively being touted around Europe. That feels like yet another example of muddled planning at United.

Fans were told Hojlund was a long term project, someone who would grow with the squad. Instead, Benjamin Sesko has arrived and Hojlund is suddenly an afterthought. While Ruben Amorim has not “closed the door” on him, the writing appears to be on the wall. When a manager has to clarify that a player is not completely out of the picture, it usually signals trouble.

The idea of AC Milan only offering a loan also highlights the lack of strong interest. Clubs sense the uncertainty and will try to take advantage. United are left in a weak bargaining position, and once again supporters are watching talent depreciate in value.

If he goes, it will feel like wasted potential. If he stays without playing, it will feel like a wasted season. Either way, for those who believed Hojlund could be the next great striker at Old Trafford, this development is extremely disappointing.
