Following a 2-2 draw in Holstein Kiel, VfB Stuttgart will have to wait until the return of league action to earn their 800th Bundesliga win. The Swabians could be the fourth team to reach this feat, but they’re currently in a four-game winless run.
"In the first half, the way we approached the game was not what it should be when you play here in Kiel," said Sebastian Hoeneß to Sky after the match before addressing Leonidas Stergiou's red card. “It was an almost hopeless situation. But, by doing the basics, we turned the situation back in the direction we wanted.
"But, the bottom line is that one point in Kiel is obviously not enough for us. And we obviously dropped points because of the first half."
Meanwhile, Kiel broke two unlikely records with Steven Skrzybski's second goal of the match. According to Opta’s database, the cheeky volley is the quickest second-half goal in Bundesliga history (nine seconds). Skrzybski also sets a new league record by finding the net in each of his last six shots on targets.
"A coach once told me: Only those who shoot at the goal can score," said the veteran after his historic display.
