All the latest news surrounding Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday are currently struggling behind the scenes as the team prepares for the new Championship season.
The Owls finished 12th in the table in the previous campaign, an improvement on their results just 12 months prior.
Danny Rohl has earned a lot of praise for his role in overseeing this rise to a top half of the table finish, with the team in danger of relegation to League One when he took over.
However, it remains unclear who will be in charge of the first team squad going into the new campaign amid financial issues surrounding owner Dejphon Chansiri.
Here we take a look at all the latest news surrounding Sheffield Wednesday…
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have agreed a deal with Sheffield Wednesday for underage talent Romario Collins.
The U15 player is set to make the switch to the Premier League side’s underage system after impressing at academy level for the Owls.
This follows Caelan Cadamarteri’s move to the Manchester outfit from Hillsborough after he also impressed in the underage system at Sheffield Wednesday.
However, it remains unclear what kind of fee the Yorkshire outfit will receive as part of this deal.
Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that assistant manager Henrik Pedersen has agreed to extend his current contract.
The Dane claimed that he didn’t have to think twice about the decision, amid reports that he could become Rohl’s replacement in the dugout.
“When the opportunity presented itself and the chairman asked me to extend my current contract with the club, I didn’t hesitate,” said Pedersen, via the club’s official website.
“It’s no secret that my family and I have fallen in love with this great club and also this wonderful city that has made us so welcome.
“The fans are what carries a club through tough games, good times and bad. And our supporters are the best!
“I’m excited to continue my role at the club and getting back to work supporting the team and working with the great group of players we have.
“To the fans, I look forward to seeing you all again soon!”
It has been reported by journalist Rob Dorsett that Rohl is now out of the running to take over at Leicester City.
The Foxes are currently searching for a replacement for Ruud van Nistelrooy, with the German being linked to the role.
However, it’s now believed that he is no longer in the frame for the position, amid the expectation that he will leave Hillsborough.
Rohl has earned a lot of praise for his work with Sheffield Wednesday, but issues behind the scenes have led to this uncertainty over his immediate future.
Sheffield Wednesday have also been handed a contract boost on the pitch as well, with midfielder Rio Shipton extending his stay at the club.
The 20-year-old spent the first half of this calendar year on loan with Cork City, competing with the side upon their return to the League of Ireland Premier Division, and claimed the experience will now help him compete in the Owls’ first team next season.
“I am delighted to extend, it’s what I’ve been working towards when going out on loan,” said Shipton, via the club’s official website.
“It was a good experience, I felt like I needed to do it for my career and now I’m glad to be back.
“The people at Cork, I loved every single one of them, they made it really easy for me to go over there.
“Living away from home was something I needed to do, and I feel like I’ve grown as a person as well, and now I’m looking forward to what’s next.”
