Sheffield United have Million Manhoef from Stoke City in their sights should Gustavo Hamer depart the club.
Sheffield United have been touted with a move for Stoke City star Million Manhoef, who is said to be on the emergency list of Gustavo Hamer replacements, should the Blades need to act.
It's been a horror show of a start for Ruben Selles as United boss, who has lost all five of his opening five competitive matches, and come under heavy scrutiny from disgruntled supporters thanks to this poor run of form.
However, away from the poor start to the season, there has been plenty of concern over the future of star man Hamer, who is the subject of late interest from PSV Eindhoven and Premier League side Leeds United.
According to The Star, Sheffield United's Yorkshire rivals are the biggest threat to sign the 28-year-old, which has seen the Blades draw up an emergency shortlist for replacements, one of those being fellow Dutchman Manhoef.
The 23-year-old has scored two goals in his opening four Championship outings, and the Steel City side could look to poach him from Stoke should Hamer depart on Monday.
Stoke and Sheffield United have made very contrasting starts to the new campaign, with the former sitting pretty in third after three wins and one defeat, and the latter propping up the Championship table having lost all four of their opening matches.
However, it's likely that the Blades will recover from this poor start, with 42 matches still to play, and some signings to be made on deadline day.
But the worry for supporters is whether star man Hamer will be a part of that squad, as Leeds and PSV continue to toy with the idea of a late move for the midfielder, which would see them fighting against the clock to secure a replacement.
Fortunately, according to The Star, Selles' side have a shortlist prepared of emergency replacements should Hamer's exit come, and one of those is Stoke starlet Manhoef, who has enjoyed an electric start to the new season.
The 23-year-old was previously linked with a move to Bramall Lane this summer, and the Blades could move to secure him as a late replacement for his compatriot, should he make the move up the M1 to Elland Road.
Hamer's future has been the talking point of the Championship in recent days, ever since FourFourTwo revealed that a loan-to-buy exit was potentially on the cards ahead of Monday's 7pm deadline.
However, the Dutchman did feature for Sheffield United in Saturday's defeat to Middlesbrough, and a picture of him returning to England from Sunday's Formula One Dutch Grand Prix has been doing the rounds on social media on Monday morning.
The Star revealed that Leeds are now seen as the biggest threat to their county rivals, but PSV have almost finalised a deal to sell Joey Veerman to Brentford, and the replacement they have lined up is Hamer.
It's been said that Daniel Farke's side could return with a late bid, whilst the Dutch giants will ramp up their interest when they sell Veerman to the Bees. So for now, it seems that the Eindhoven-based club could be the biggest threat.
