As confirmed by the Sheffield Star, the Blades have an undisclosed sell-on clause from their initial agreement with the Merseyside club in 2016.

Calvert-Lewin came through the ranks of the Championship side’s academy system before moving to Goodison Park for a reported £1.5 million fee.

Since then, he has gone on to cement himself as a key part of the Toffees’ first team squad, helping them avoid relegation in the last few seasons.

However, speculation is rife over his future with Everton during the transfer window, which could see Sheffield United receive a much-needed financial boost.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin of interest to AC Milan as Newcastle United talks break down

It had been reported that Newcastle United were eyeing a move for Calvert-Lewin this summer in a bid to improve their attacking options.

However, that move will no longer be happening, with the Magpies pulling out of negotiations for the English striker, according to a report from Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.

Both Everton and Newcastle are currently managing their situation regarding the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, and the latter's young Gambian winger Yankuba Minteh was linked with going in the opposite direction to Sean Dyche's side in a separate deal.

However, a potential £40 million move for Calvert-Lewin to St. James' Park is now no longer on the table, leaving just AC Milan as a known interested party.

Milan are reportedly keen on the 27-year-old, according to the Daily Mail, but it remains to be seen if a move to Italy arises for the England international.

Sheffield United will be keeping a close eye on Calvert-Lewin's situation, as they will be owed a certain amount of the transfer fee that Everton could get - should Everton get the £40 million they are seemingly looking for, then the Blades would recieve £3.85 million if they had a 10 per cent sell-on clause of any profit made, for example.

Sheffield United’s financial situation means Dominic Calvert-Lewin deal would be helpful

Sheffield United have been the subject of takeover interest from a US-based consortium, but no agreement has yet been reached on a deal.

This would be a big boost to their current financial position, which has been weakened in the last few years despite earning big money from being in the Premier League.

However, it’s understood that current owner Prince Abdullah is hoping to retain a stake in the Blades, meaning it won’t be a totally new era for the club if a deal goes through.

With the summer window already open, supporters will be hoping an agreement can be finalised as quickly as possible in order to help bring in players for a promotion push next season.

While the club waits for a takeover update, the arrival of funds from Calvert-Lewin’s sale would be really big for the Yorkshire outfit.

It remains to be seen what kind of fee Everton are holding out for with the striker, but it should earn Sheffield United a seven-figure fee.

This move will show the benefit of sell-on clauses, as it’s been eight years since he left Bramall Lane and he could still earn Sheffield United some much-needed revenue.
