Derby County boss Paul Warne has defended the Rams’ 2-0 defeat against Leeds United at the weekend by reminding the fans that the league leaders Sheffield United also lost at Elland Road this season.
Warne’s Derby side lost their third game in a row on Saturday at Elland Road against Daniel Farke’s Leeds.
Joe Rodon and Maxmillian Wober’s goals from set pieces in the first half secured Leeds all three points against Derby in the Championship encounter.
Warne pointed out that Leeds have a strong team and thinks that Derby’s defeat at Elland Road is not a shock result.
The Rams boss pointed out that Leeds have not lost a game on their home turf except the Burnley match and defended his team’s failure to win on Saturday by stressing that even a team like Sheffield United lost their game at Elland Road.
“I don’t think there is any surprise that we lost 2-0 here”, Warne told Rams TV.
“Sheffield United lost here; everyone lost here virtually apart from Burnley, I think and Pompey got a draw weirdly right at the start of the season.
“Look, it is a difficult place to come.
“They have very good players.
“I am not making any excuses and the lads gave me everything they had.”
Derby are now winless in their last five games and next they are set to take on Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday night.
